AGILE AND MASSIVE...PRESS FEED LINE DRIVES
AUTO STAMPING
SUPPLIER
A leading North American leading stamping firm and Tier 1 & 2 supplier
to the auto industry has recently installed a new, state-of-the-art electronic
servo press feed line at one of its facilities, located in Springfield, TN,
heightening its flexibility and production range. The new system, from Dallas
Industries, Inc. of Troy, MI, features an advanced PC unit that links feed
line equipment and the press for powerful synchronous control—including
programmable cams—and monitoring, plus, with an expansive part number/job
memory function, the system provides fast and easy changeovers that is ideal
for JIT-type operations
In addition to Dallas' Pressmaster© Plus, the new sophisticated
line includes a centering reel with thread drive and load car, a powered
straightener, and a model DRF-872 electronic roll feed and a powered
threading table that mounts between the straightener and feed. The line’s
capacities and performance specifications are impressive including coil
weights of up to 50,000 pounds and stock up to 72" wide with material
thickness of 0.90" at the 72" width and 0.200" thick at
50" width in high-strength steel. Despite it large, upper-end capacities,
the system can accurately and nimbly feed materials at a 0.040" minimum
thickness. The feed provides feed length accuracy throughout the material
range and SPM which reaches an approximate feed and press speed of 70
strokes per minute at 12" length and a 270o feed cycle.
The DRF-872 servo feed includes such mechanical features as two full
width 8" diameter, hardened and matte finish chrome rollers…mounted
using anti-friction bearings, and both rollers are driven by precision
cluster gearing, hardened edge guide rollers, electronically actuated
pilot pin release, plus air cylinders operation of upper feed roll. Drive
highlights include digital servo controller and AC brushless motor, self-diagnostics,
feed length settings from 0 to 999.999” in 0.001" increments,
and adjustable acceleration rates for handling delicate materials. Also
included are a variable speed control and a jog feed cycle to index material
a preset length.
The Dallas model DPS-4.2-7-72 powered straightener incorporates seven 4.2" diameter
hardened, ground, polished and chrome plated, anti-friction mounted straightener
rolls, and two pairs of 5.6" diameter chrome finish pinch rolls at the
entry and exit of the unit. The straightener also features a central lubrication
system (for feed, too), motorized upper roll adjustment, LCD readouts of roll
positions, adjustable vertical guide rolls at the entry point, and a three-sensor
electronic eye loop control with automatic straightener payout adjustment for
optimum performance.
The Dallas reel includes hydraulic push button expansion and thread
drive, a fail-safe brake that locks the spindle to prevent coasting,
and the hydraulic powered, push-button control load car featuring 24" lift
for handling coils of varying OD's. Additional mandrel shoes were also
provided to increase the coil ID handling versatility.
The Pressmaster Plus not only controls the feed line's function and
synchronizes the straightener and feed speeds, but also coordinates and
adjusts feed acceleration and velocity to automatically follow varying
press speeds and SPMs. The control has a full size keyboard and color
monitor, with an unlimited, disk storage part file capacity. A special
feature of the control is its capacity to include feed initiate and pilot
release timing as part of the programming, which is also stored with
other job parameters.
Dallas Industries' press feed and coil handling equipment includes servo
feeds in a full range of sizes and capacities, air feed systems, pull-thru
and powered straighteners, both cradles and coil reels, and a wide selection
of auxiliary accessories. For further information regarding Dallas Industries
