"SPACE
SAVER" PRESS FEED HELPS
KEEP TRUCK PARTS ROLLIN’
Troy, MI — Dallas Industries, Inc. has recently completed the shipment
and installation of a new Dallas Space-SaverTM Electronic Servo Press Feed
System at GB Manufacturing Company, Delta, Ohio, a leading job shop stamping
facility with special emphasis providing truck parts to leading OEM and
other tiered suppliers. The new system consists of a coil reel and load
car, electronic servo feed and pull through straightener, and a combination
unit that acts as a coil restrictor-peeler-threader-debender. The compact
footprint of the system allowed GB to automate an existing press in a confined
area of less than 25 feet from press attachmant to plant aisle.
The system’s performance specifications include 10,000 pound, 36" wide
and 60" O.D. coil capacity, with material thickness of 0.139" at the
full 36" width, and up to 0.200" thick at 12" width — adjustment
allows for a 0.020" minimum stock thickness and 6" minimum coil width.
The load car, an integral element of the reel, features a hydraulic-powered 18" vertical
lift height (beneficial for handling partial coils) while its coil pre-staging
ability means fast changeouts for next loading cycles. Seven 3" diameter
rolls on the straightener remove coil bend plus the two 4" diameter feed
rolls provide a feed length accuracy of +0.005". Standard control features
include a digital servo controller and high performance AC brushless servo motor,
self diagnostics electronics, feed lengths from 0 to 999.999" in 0.001" increments,
a keypad and LCD readout for length and speed data entry and display, plus user
adjustable acceleration rates when feeding delicate, thin stock.
The reel mechanism,
a Model DPR features an AC variable frequency drive with
electric
eye loop control. Other features include: Coil width scales on its expansion
arms, hydraulic expansion, failsafe braking system and adjustable coil keepers.
The coil load car travels in enclosed vee tracks and, in addition for its lift,
forward and reverse motion is also provided by a hydraulic power source, mounted
within the reel mechanism.
The Model DRFESH-436 servo roll feed includes two 4" diameter, full width,
chrome plated (for wear and grip) and roller bearing-mounted solid steel rolls,
Dallas' unique cluster gear drives for precision, self centering edge guides,
dual air cylinders to open and close rolls, hardened edge guide rolls, two speed
jog threading and two speed jog feed control, and an electrically actuated pilot
pin release.
The PTS-414 pull through straightener mounts on the entry end of the feed unit
and features seven 3" diameter rolls, crodon finish lower pinch roll, air
operated and adjusted pinch rolls, and hand-crank adjustable upper straightening
rolls,.
The feed line also includes the combination coil restrictor (prevents coil from
springing when restraining bands are cut), peeler (lifts the leading edge of
material from coil), threader (guides material edges into the straightener),
debender (helps remove leading and ending edge bend from coil material.
Dallas Industries' line of press feeding and coil handling equipment encompasses
precision
electronic servo drive feeds in a full range of sizes and capacities, air feed
systems, pull-thru and powered straighteners, thread tables, cradles and a wide
selection of coil reels in single end and double end configurations, in addition
to a load car option.
