DIE MAKER SELECTS
SERVO FEED,
STRAIGHTENER FOR TOOL TRYOUTS
In order to enhance service and best meet customers' needs, the C & D Tool & Die
Company of Mt. Clemens, MI, has installed a new, combination servo press feed
and pull thru straightener unit provided by Dallas Industries, Inc., of Troy,
MI. The new equipment is being used by the tool and die maker on an in-house
press to conduct die testing, customer trials and final acceptance runoffs. The
system provides the tool shop the ability to more closely simulate production-type
conditions and results in accurate process and performance evaluations.
The system allows excellent flexibility for a variety of applications with stock
widths of up to 48" and will handle materials to 0.090" thick (at the
48" width) and up to 0.135" thick for materials of 18" wide. Adjustment
flexibility allows a minimum thickness of 0.020" stock. A high level of
precision is established with a feed length accuracy of +0.003" throughout
its 0 to 999.999" variable feed lengths, while speeds of up to 103 strokes
per minute at, for example, a 6" feed length and 270o feed cycle are possible.
The servo feed, a Model DRFESH-448, features Dallas' unique cluster gear drive
and a brushless AC servo motor. Other standard features include two 4" diameter,
full width, chrome plated (for wear and grip) and roller bearing-mounted solid
steel rolls, self centering hardened edge guides, dual air cylinders to open
and close the rolls, two speed jog threading and two speed jog feed control,
and an electrically actuated pilot pin release.
The pull-thru straightener, a model PTS-444, is integral with the feed unit,
mounted on the entry side of the feed mechanism, and features five seven 3" diameter
hardened, ground and polished straightening rolls.
In addition to precision servo feed systems, Dallas Industries' press feeding
and coil handling equipment encompasses air feed systems, powered straighteners
as well as pull-thru straighteners, thread tables, and a wide selection of coil
cradles, as well as coil reels in single end and double end configurations, in
addition to a load car option. Also available are a range of control options,
up to the Pressmaster CNC control with automatic speed adjustment for synchronous
operation with press rates.
