PRESS FEED LINE CONQUERS THE
FINAL FRONTIER…SPACE
Troy, MI — Dallas Industries, Inc. has finalized a recent order
from Davis Tool and Engineering Co., Detroit, MI, with the installation
of an advanced Dallas Space-SaverTM Electronic Servo Press Feed System.
Davis, in addition to its long standing as a builder of tools and dies
for Tier I and II suppliers to the automotive industry, has expanded
its services to include providing job shop stamping operations—the
acquired feed system will augment those capabilities. The new system
consists of a motorized coil reel that includes a load car feature and
a combination unit that acts as a coil restrictor-peeler-threader-debender,
a powerful, electronic servo feed and pull through straightener, plus
a Dallas LSP automatic inline stock oiler to help prolong tool life.
The Space-Saver line developed by Dallas is said to reduce the amount of floor
area required by anywhere from 1/3 to as much as 1/2 the space as compared to
conventional feed system layouts.
The system’s performance specifications include 20,000 pound, 42" wide
and 72" O.D. coil capacity, with material thickness of 0.125" at the
full 42" width, and up to 0.200" thick at 30" width. To maximize
flexibility, system adjustment settings allow for a 0.015" minimum stock
thickness. The load car, an integral element of the reel, features a hydraulic-powered
18" vertical lift height (beneficial for handling partial coils) while its
coil pre-staging ability means fast coil changes for imminent loading cycles.
Seven 3-1/2" diameter rolls on the straightener remove coil bend while two
6" diameter feed rolls help to provide +0.003" feed length accuracy.
Standard control features include a digital servo controller and high performance
AC brushless servo motor, self diagnostics electronics, feed lengths from 0 to
999.999" in
0.001" increments, a keypad and LCD readout for length and speed data entry
and display, plus user adjustable acceleration rates when feeding delicate, thin
stock.
The reel mechanism, a self-centering Model DPR features a 7.5 HP variable speed
(4 to 16 RPM) spindle drive motor, an adjustable air brake with dual pressure,
coil width scales on its adjustable arms, hydraulic-powered, push-button controlled
support arm expansion, fail-safe braking system, and motorized coil keepers.
The coil load car travels in enclosed vee tracks and, in addition for the lift
function, forward and reverse motions are provided by a hydraulic power source,
mounted within the reel mechanism.
The Model DRFS-642 servo roll feed includes two 6" diameter, full width,
chrome finish (for wear and grip) solid steel rolls…mounted in anti-friction
bearings, Dallas' unique cluster gear drives for precision and consistent power,
self centering edge guides, dual air cylinders to open and close rolls, hardened
edge guide rolls, two speed jog threading and two speed jog feed control, and
an electrically actuated pilot pin release. The ability for the user to adjust
acceleration rates is also provided for applications involving the feed of thin,
delicate stocks.
The seven roll PTS-570 pull through straightener mounts on the entry end of the
feed unit and features chrome finish lower pinch roll, air operated and adjusted
pinch rolls, and hand-crank adjustable upper straightening rolls along with adjustable
vertical entry guide rollers.
The feed line also includes the combination coil restrictor (prevents coil from
springing when restraining bands are cut), peeler (lifts the leading edge of
material from coil), threader (guides material edges into the straightener),
debender (helps remove leading and ending edge bend from coil material.
Dallas Industries' press feed and coil handling equipment includes servo feeds
in a full range of sizes and capacities, air feed systems, pull-thru and powered
straighteners, both cradles and coil reels, and a wide selection of auxiliary
accessories.
